Commanding Officer, U.S. Coast Guard Activities Europe
CAPT David C. Barata, United States Coast Guard (USCG), is the Commanding Officer of USCG Activities Europe. In this capacity, CAPT Barata serves as Officer in Charge, Marine Inspection, ensuring U.S. commercial vessel, as well as foreign cruise ship and tank vessels destined for U.S. markets, compliance with U.S. regulations and international conventions throughout Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The unit is also responsible for investigating and taking enforcement action associated with vessel casualties and violations of laws or regulations by licensed/credentialed U.S. mariners. In addition, he oversees the International Port Security Program's efforts to meet the U.S. Congressional mandate to assess anti-terrorism measures and verify implementation of the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code at ports in 83 countries.
