Sue Barrett joined the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (“EBRD”) in September 1992 and her current position is Director, Head of Transport. Sue’s team of 25 staff finance transport projects across the EBRD region with both public and private sector sponsors. Providing flexible financing solutions, this covers a range of financing instruments from sovereign financing to corporate debt, project finance, bond subscription, subordinated debt and equity, including via the capital markets and infrastructure funds.
EBRD’s total investment in the transport sector stands at EUR 15 billion. This has financed 310 transport projects with a total value of approximately EUR 60 billion. As EBRD’s Head of Transport, Sue oversees an active portfolio of around 150 projects with public and private clients across all transport subsectors: road, railways, maritime, aviation, logistics and intermodal and a current exposure level of some EUR 6 billion. The total volume of new transport operations signed annually by the EBRD is approximately EUR 1.3 billion.
Sue is also responsible for supporting sector reform initiatives in the transport sector, as well as promoting safe and sustainable transport networks. These transport initiatives are supported by technical assistance provided by the EBRD’s shareholders and donors, averaging around EUR 8 million per annum. EBRD is also able to mobilise grant funding for green investments in best available technologies in the transport sector.
Prior to joining the EBRD, Sue worked for Price Waterhouse inLondonas a Senior Manager, where she advised on privatisation and regulation of utilities. She has a Masters degree in Economics from the London School of Economics.
